In response to the announcement of East Lantau Metropolis in the 2014 Policy Address, numerous civil society organizations and green groups formed the Save Lantau Alliance to protect Lantau.
Since its establishment, the Alliance has received interviews from different media, organized different community workshops and events, held conservation tours, organized meetings and site visits with various government departments etc. The Alliance has also carried out research, land search to clear up the contexts and conflicts of interest in these controversial developments.
The Alliance also committed to connect different groups and neighborhoods in Lantau and launched different community projects such as oral history, community mapping, reclaiming farmland to unite Lantau residents and the general public to concern about the development threat of Lantau and reshape its local characteristics.
Designing Hong Kong is one of the supporting organizations of the Save Lantau Alliance.
因應《2014年施政報告》中宣佈，政府將大規模開發大嶼山及其周邊海域，多個關注大嶼山發展的民間團體及保育團體於2014年初組成「守護大嶼聯盟」，希望與公眾一同守護大嶼山這片香港人的可持續發展儲備和後花園，反對盲目填海，向政府的「掠奪式」發展思維說不。
聯盟自成立以來，透過不同方式，如網上文宣及街站、地區組織工作、保育行等，也接受過不同媒體的訪問，向公眾介紹政府在大嶼山的發展方案，及對大嶼山的環境社區特色有更多的瞭解。聯盟亦多次進行發展資料研究、土地業權和查冊等工作，以疏理相關之發展脈絡及利益衝突情況。
此外，聯盟亦致力連結社區內不同的團體及街坊，策劃不同的社區項目，包括口述歷史、社區地圖、農地復耕等，凝聚大嶼山居民及香港市民關心社區發展，重塑地方特色。
